Each year the Sony World Photography Awards attracts photographers around the globe to submit their best work from the past 12 months. Free to enter and open to photographers of all abilities, last year’s awards received a whopping 327,00 entries from 195 countries and territories across the world!
The awards, now in its 13th year, has four categories that recognise photographers’ bodies of work, standalone images, emerging photographers and photography students.

As one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions, you can imagine the fame and praise attached for the successful applicants!
The awards ensure that people from varied backgrounds and experience have equal opportunities to win Sony digital imaging equipment, publication in the winners’ book and their work displaying in the touring exhibition, which will travel to Japan, France, Italy and Germany.
A look at the incredible entries
This striking image of a red fox was captured by Valentin Malinov from Macedonia. He has entered this photography in the natural world and wildlife category in the open competition.
An alligator flashes his pearly whites at sunset, as Yung-Sen Wu from Taiwan snaps his photograph.
This entry by Zarni Myo Win from Myanmar is in the open competition’s travel category.
This incredible image of a shepherd guiding his flock through a dust road in Turkey is submitted into the competition by F. Dilek Uyar.
The jurors are due to meet in London in January 2020 to debate the work, where the first of the shortlists will be announced on 4th February 2020.
